Naiads are freshwater aquatic nymphs. They are found near rivers, springs and fountains. They were not immortal, but they could live for thousands of years, yet still remain young and beautiful. They were said to have healing skills and the sick came to drink the water from their source. But bathing in their water point was generally considered sacrilege and the bather exposed himself to various discomforts.
