The Calavera Dark Silver brooch is embroidered with Japanese Miyuki glass beads and Czech glass beads, pyrite stone beads, two Swarovski cristal cabochons and three Swarovski crystal tips. The back of the brooch is covered with soft suedette and includes two pins for good support.

Since ancient times, the pyrite stone is distinguished for its ability to produce sparks under the effect of a shock. It was then widely used as a fire stone to start fires. Native Americans used the fine stone as a mirror for its reflective properties.
In the nineteenth century, with the advent of the gold rush, many miners were taken madly by discovering what they thought were huge deposits of gold but which were in reality only pyrite with a golden luster.
