Two women, each of whom had given birth to a child, appeared before King Solomon in a dispute. One of the infants had died of suffocation and the two women claimed to be the mother of the living child. To settle this disagreement, King Solomon demanded a sword and ordered: “Divide the living child in two and give half to the first and half to the second.” One of the women said she would rather renounce the child than see him die. Solomon recognized the child’s true mother.

This brooch is inspired by Gustav Klimt’s painting “The Three Ages of Woman” and perfectly illustrates the tenderness of a mother for her child.
