Tulip Field Necklace

A Persian legend tells that a beautiful Armenian woman, tired of waiting for her lover who had left for a long journey, threw herself off a cliff by splashing the rocks with her blood. The drops gave birth to a red flower: the tulip, a name taken from an old Persian word meaning turban. Becoming one of the great symbols of love in all Asia Minor, the tulip has never lost its power and, every year in Turkey as in Iran, on the day of the tulip festival, lovers offer it to the beautiful women they love, slipping it between the crosses of the moucharabiehs that protect harems from prying eyes.
